Fred Dowden, Broker Associate, started in the Real Estate Industry in June of 1956 upon graduation from the University of Iowa. His Father, Fred Dowden, Sr., had been in the real estate & insurance business since 1918. Fred operated the agency from 1956 until 1983, at which time he sold the agency to John & Kathi Hinn, making DOWDEN-HINN REALTORS the oldest continuous real estate agency in the Iowa Great Lakes! Fred has been a lifelong resident of Spirit Lake, graduating from the Spirit Lake School system in 1950, attending the University of South Dakota, serving in the army for 2 years in the Korean conflict, and subsequently completeing his education at the University of Iowa. Fred was one of the original members of the Lakes Multiple Listing Service, has been a member of the Iowa Great Lakes Board of Realtors, The Iowa Association of Realtors, The Realtor’s Land Institute, from which he obtained the coveted designation of Accredited Land Consultant in 1962, and many local business and fraternal organizations. Fred was one of the original members of Spirit Lake Industries and is the only original founder still serving on that Board.
